Thank you for your prayer and encouragement, especially through the last couple of months.
We have decided to join the Eastern Europe Team in Budapest, Hungary. There were many factors that made up that decision; too many to list. However, there are a few that we think important to share.
First, we still believe the Lord is not done using us in ministry. We feel the Lord called us to this ministry and He is not calling us to something else, yet. Thad will be the Software Development Leader, reporting to the Eastern Europe IT Director, JR Peck. JR’s summary of Thad’s role is “Oversee the development of mission critical software by managing projects with other ministries, contractors, and in house.” This vision fits well with our vision over the last 10 years.
Second, as we weighed other options and opportunities, a few caused us to evaluate our values, at least those that affect this decision. The calling I mention above was a large part of that. Another was our family dynamic. Being in ministry, even with the travel, cross-cultural living, stress, and spiritually difficult times, as many of us have, has afforded our family with some special times to be together. Even throughout this very difficult season, Thad has been able to engage with Jana and the boys a lot, something for which we are very grateful.
Third, and lastly for this letter, is you. We cannot overstate what it has meant for us over the last 10 years to have a group of people with whom we share our lives, triumphs, failures, struggles, and hopes. You have prayed with us, fed us, given sacrificially and generously, talked and laughed with us, and generally loved our family. You have invested in us and believe we still have value to stay in the field.
Over the next few months, we will re-engage full-time to raise the funds necessary to move to Budapest. This will not be an easy process. We will be “going from 30 to 100”, so to speak. Any runners or cyclists out there know that to re-start after some time off can be painful. However, knowing our calling, with our family strongly together and supportive, and each of you praying for and encouraging us, we are excited to get to work!
