What do I like to read?
Very good question!! I am very glad you asked... you didn't? Oh well, good question anyway! My favorite book that I have ever read is...
I will get to that later. I am currently working on Romance of the Forest by Ann Radcliffe. Good luck finding it at Barnes & Noble or Borders. At B&N it is in the Romance section which should be a crime. A 300 year old book should not be in the Romance section. It would take a lot to explain what it is about. So, I will leave that to you to find out! I am not finished but it came highly recommended from Jana and thus far, I agree with her!
My "recently read" list is quite strange, which is good because I will not get bored. Before Romance of the Forest, I read a Year in Provence by Peter Mayle and is usually found in Travel Literature. This book is about Peter and his wife and their experience in Provence, France. They are English, so the book is very funny if you like British humor. Basically, you will learn the French are strange people and have their way of doing things which is amusing if looked at properly. Though, they eat some meals that will make your mouth water just reading about them!! Again, recommended by Jana.
Before that was another British author, Terry Pratchett and the Discworld series. You will learn very quickly that I love British authors. As a matter of fact, Ann Radcliffe is British, but that is different, since it is not humor. The Discworld is a series that takes place entirely in a world created by Pratchett. The world, is of course, a disc (quite flat), that rests on the shoulders of giant elephants, which in turn stand on a giant turtle. I have read 5 books so far, with the last being Sourcery. Before that was Mort, which is about a guy named Mort who becomes Death's assistant. Again, amusing but not for everyone.
Now, that gets you my last few books. So, what is my all time favorite? Well, there are several and you will see why in a moment. My favorite normal book is The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas. Count of Monte Cristo is not much like the recent movie, which I did enjoy. There are more characters than I would care to count, but trust me, there were a ton. Each one was introduced and described so well, that you loved or hated them and certainly desired to know their outcome, good or bad. Each was intricate to the store as well, nothing wasted!!
Now, that leaves me with the other half of my "favorites" list. My all-time favorite book is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The book is actually just what the title implies while being so much more and in the end, much less. The book begins with Arthur Dent, then introduces his best friend, Ford Prefect. It takes off from there as they tour the Galaxy! I will not describe much more since it gives away some of the suspense of the first couple of chapters, though there is not a ton of suspense since the series is 5 books! You will understand WHEN you read it. For more info, or if you have read it, email me!!
That is all I have at the moment! Happy reading!
