Anon - The Love of God
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Tho stretched from sky to sky.

*This stanza from the hymn "The Love of God" was not actually written by Frederick M. Lehman, the writer of the hymn. It is said that this poem was written on the wall of an unknown patient's room in an insane asylum. It is apparently based on a poem called "Hadamut" written in 1096AD by Rabbi Mayer in Worms, Germany.
**Thad and I both love the word picture that this poem creates...it gives us chills!**
