World Cup's Elite 7
If you are following World Cup, you are no doubt excited about the games coming up. I have my picks, as I am sure you do as well. My picks will be covered in another post soon. In the mean time...
A curious bit of information about the World Cup was passed along to me by my brother, Ben, this morning and I thought I would pass it along as well. There are only 7 countries that have won the World Cup.
From that, I did a little research. Those teams are Brazil (5), Italy (3), Germany (3), Uruguay (2), Argentina (2), England (1) and France (1). That is 7 countries in 17 World Cups since 1930, which was in Uruguay and won by Uruguay.
It gets better. Only 1 of those teams is not still in this World Cup... Uruguay. The other six are still alive, along with potential newcomers to a World Cup victory, Portugal and Ukraine, neither of which has ever made it to the finals.
As for the finals, Germany has the distinction of having lost the most finals, 4, bringing their total number of finals to 7. That ties Brazil for the most number of Finals appearances. Hungary (2), Czechoslovakia (2), Netherlands (2) and Sweden (1) have been to the finals, but never won. The rest of the finals were played by one of the Elite 7.
Just thought you might enjoy that!!
