World Cup Quarterfinals, Part 1

Well, I told you I would share my thoughts about World Cup, so here they are!

I believe this is the best possible matchup combination the organizers could hope for. 5 of the best teams (Germany, Argentina,Italy, England, Brazil). Nothing against any teams eliminated (namely the US and my post-Group stage favorite Ghana) but these 5 teams are the Elite in the World. To beat them is an upset. The only other team that could be argued to be in this group may be the Czech Republic, ranked #2 in the World, but their group play showed that ranking was on par with our #5.

The best game of the Quarter finals looks to be Germany v Argentina. This game looks to be a monster of a game. Germany has changed their style to be an attacking team. They are looking pretty good so far. Argentina is about the same, though they have struggled in their games since Serbia, whom they beat 6-0. My pick for this one? Germany 2-1. That is not a shot at Argentina, but a hats off to a German team that is a looking very good. I would have to say they are my pick for the World Cup.

My next favorite game is England v Portugal. England happens to be my other pick for the finals, though I think they have a tougher road to get there is they beat Portugal. Not that Germany will not have trouble with Argentina, but rather, they should not with Italy. Portugal just came of a bruiser of a game in which a key player was hurt and 2 others will sit out with Red cards. That makes it difficult to play at your best and your best is what you need against Englad. They may not be flashy but if Rooney gets his timing, no one can stop him, especially if Beckham continues to serve up shots.

Our last 2 games are Brazil v France and Italy v Ukraine.

I will cover those 2 games later. Before tomorrow, I assure you!

Yes, if you really need to know, I am bummed out because this is day 2 with no World Cup action to be had. The next best thing is to talk about it!!
