Reading List

What's happening in Kandern? What's your biggest struggle right now? Are you going to watch the Super Bowl? What does your German Driver's license look like? Why are there so many words that start with "sch" in Germany? Do they have to use them when naming shops?

I know, I know... you have many questions. So, in order to address them all, while also addressing none of them (except 1, of course I'm going to watch the Super Bowl!!!), I will tell you about what I am reading, while we are not working on German and unpacking boxes. Why would I do that? A little bit is because I am not ready to answer some of those questions, partly because I do not know the answers and mostly it is because some of those those questions are silly!!

I was recently talking with a good friend about the book I am currently reading. While I have a bunch of books in the queue, I was struggling to come up with my next book. It's easy to add books to a stack but is another thing entirely to choose the next one. Now, I know, you could say that all of our books are packed into boxes and let me off the hook. That would work, except for the fact that we have a detailed list of all of our books and their box number. Thank you for trying!

My trouble comes in 2 parts. The first is that I am reading 4 series, my favorite of those is the Wheel of Time. The series is 12 books, roughly 900 pages each. I could be reading those straight for the next year! I will not though because I do not own all of the books, I have many other books I have not read and the next book in the series is checked out at the library!

My second issue to address is the content of my next read. The way I see it that I have the choice of a Theological book, such as The Cost of Discipleship, namely a heavy hitter. Or I could go with another Wheel of Time type book, meaning fiction, perhaps Sci-Fi or Fantasy that would be fun but a tough read as well. There are alway classical novels, such as Anne Radcliffe's The Italian. Again, fun but not exactly a breeze. Of course there are a ton of fun, easy reads like Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett, part of the Discworld Series.

I do not even know how to classify On Liberty by John Stuart Mill or Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky.

In the end, my decision rests on the fact that my last few books have been tougher reads, so I would like to read something a little easier. Learning German is mentally taxing and that is another post.

After all of that, you probably assume that I would take you this far and tell you I have not decided on anything and would welcome your comments with recommendations that are new or suggestions from above... that is half right. I would welcome comments and suggestions!!

But I have chosen my next 3 reads. And those are:
The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov (part of the Robot Series)
Cafe Theology by Michael Lloyd, who has obviously read Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky

After those 3, I will probably resume Jordan's Wheel of Time series with Book 5, Fires of Heaven. I have 130 pages left in Book 4, so I will begin The Caves of Steel pretty soon!!

I will take another picture of the other books on my stack to update the one that is there. I have removed a few books, added some, and there are still a few in boxes.

My next post will come soon. I have some travelling in the coming months and we are preparing for our first visitors! Lots to talk about!
