Crazy Buys

"Crazy buys" in London...just multiply the cost in British Pounds by 2 to get the American Dollar cost!! Don't worry, we didn't dare buy anything!!!

--Jana

A box of "Fruit Loops" for nearly $14!!!

Oreo's" for nearly $12!!!

ONE box of "Mac and Cheese" for nearly $5!!!

And, drum roll please...Peanut Butter for nearly $9!!!

Those are definitely some "crazy buys!!!"

Wow, I can't believe it. It's cheaper to buy Kelloggs breakfast cereal and Oreos in Kenya that it is in London! However, it's still quite expensive and the supply here is quite unpredictable. I haven't seen Cheerios in the stores for several months. The other missionaries here have a saying for some of these things like Cheerios that we miss from home ... "Buy it before the hoarders do." :-)

I guess if you got reeeeaaaaaally desperate, it's there. Good thing Germany is on the Euro! I can't believe it, but it might actually be cheaper to buy it here and ship it than to buy it in London. The Mac & Cheese is the hardest for me to believe.

I know! I could hardly believe those prices...and this was just a sampling! There was an entire American section. Root Beer, Lawry's Seasoning (how random!?), Salsa, Doritos, Lipton Tea, and the list goes on! In fact, I remember seeing a couple of items that I haven't seen here in Texas for a while...but now that I try to think of them, I can't remember what they were!

Of course Mac & Cheese is expensive in Europe! Its only the expat Americans that eat it. You will learn to love the stuff Europeans love, and that is not so crazy expensive. - we lived there for nearly 15 years, 4 years of that in Kandern. You don't buy the Kelloggs Corn Flakes but the cheaper "local" ones - that taste better anyways and are half the price. But we (my boys most accurately) couldn't live without peanut butter. Visitors from Canada would bring along a couple of 2kg jars each time. :-)
